I received my Birth Doula Certification through DONA, and am pursuing my certification as a Childbirth Education as well. I believe in supporting all kinds of births and strive to offer complete and unbiased information on a variety of topics surrounding labor, delivery, and postpartum. I believe an empowered birth is a basic human right and I'm passionate about educating moms and birth partners about the normalcy of birth so they can make informed decisions and advocate for themselves.
Why Wild Dove?
In seeking an un-medicated birth with my son, I labored at home until it was time to push. My in-laws were caring for my daughter while I labored, and took her for a walk when things got intense. When they returned, I had reached a point where I did not think I could continue. My daughter came into the room where I was and brought me a dove feather she had found on her walk. A simple gift from my precious girl turned into a powerful reminder for me that I held onto for the rest of my labor. That feather reminded me of how much I loved my daughter, and at that moment I knew my love was powerful enough for me to finish what I had started. I went on to have a beautiful redemptive birth with my son, and I still have that feather.
About Me
I'm Heather Thomas, owner of Wild Dove Doula. I grew up in Amarillo, Texas, where I met my amazing husband. We have called Round Rock home since 2016, and I am a proud Texan! We have 2 beautiful children, Norah and Graham. My son Graham is hard of hearing and rocks a pair of hearing aids, which only make him cuter. In addition to being a wife, mom, and doula, I serve on the Board of Directors for Carry Them Ministries, a non profit organization that serves malnourished infants and provides lactation support to families in Nigeria. I love singing and hand lettering, and Leslie Knope is my hero!
After a traumatic birth with my daughter, I decided to change my whole approach the second time around. Through education and a rock star birth team, including my doula, Julie, I was able to have the birth I've always wanted. It was after the birth of my son that I discovered my passion to help other families find the education and support they needed to empower themselves in childbirth.
Love can make us do brave and wild things, and that's just exactly what giving birth is, no matter how you choose to do it. Brave and wild. I would love to chat with you about your dreams and how we could brave the wild together.
